The Paddle Guard is designed to protect the edges of the paddle blade from damage and will not affect the performance of the paddle.  The kit also includes a tough urethane tape that is to be wrapped over the ends of the Guard and along the "neck" of the paddle.  This tape will keep the Guard from peeling off the blade and protect the "neck" of the paddle from damage.
